The dam, with its regulation dam and hydroelectric plant, is an imposing technical construction, to which the Rhine river wetlands are directly attached. Bicycle routes, among them the European Rhine Route, take you across the area.
Tourists can visit local towns, rich with history and can admire the many traditional half-timbered houses and churches of the local towns. Day trips will lead you to Germany, as well as to France. Museums will show you shipping activities, ancient customs, technical or natural subjects, and they will inform you about history or even give you insight into the future.
